2016 Atlanta Concours d”Elegance
Best in Show, 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost
Mr. DeNean Stafford, Owner
Hurricane Matthew was churning up the eastern seaboard from Florida to the Carolinas. The Atlanta Concours staff, entrants, sponsors, vendors and volunteers where watching the weather reports with nervous anticipation. There were a few entrants who lived in the coastal areas of the storm path who chose to stay in place, but there were many others who were able bring their prized collections to Atlanta for the weekend. It was really a “wait and see” situation for the upcoming event.
The weekend dawned with no rain, a beautiful cloudless sky and perfect temperatures. On this spectacular fall day in North Georgia, the inaugural Atlanta Concours d’Elegance took place at the Chateau Elan Resort and Winery. Automobiles from just about all vintages appeared much to the delight of a very appreciative audience. Automobiles from just about all eras were represented, from a $4 million dollar recently restored 1965 Ford GT40; to a freshly restored, priceless 1900 De Dion Bouton Vis a Vis that came all the way from Kenner, Louisiana.
The Concours judges and staff were especially excited to see the 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost belonging to Mr. DeNean Stafford of Tifton, Georgia. Co-Chairman of the Atlanta Concours, Harry Krix stated: “I was delighted to have Mr. Stafford and his exceptional Rolls-Royce at our Inaugural event. It is a credit to the Stafford family that they chose to bring this many time award winning Silver Ghost to our show.”
When discussing significant motor cars, most all agree that the Rolls-Royce belongs at the very top of the automotive pyramid. Mr. Stafford’s 1909 Silver Ghost, is the only short wheelbase sport chassis Silver Ghost in existence. It is one of the most impressive, documented, highly-authentic early Ghosts in existence. It’s rarity, fit and finish made judging the car an easy exercise for the Concours judges. Up against some significant Brass Era contenders, they picked this exceptional Ghost for our inaugural Best in Show.
We are looking forward to seeing Mr. Stafford and some of his other beautiful automobiles in the 2017 edition of the Atlanta Concours d’Elegance on September 30th and October 1st once again at the Chateau Elan Resort and Winery. With uncompromising quality, sparkling performance, and a fascinating history, this early Silver Ghost is unique among its peers.
