What is the history of a Concours d’Elegance?
A Concours d’Elegance is a French term that literally translated means a competition of elegance. Think of it as a “beauty pageant” for rare and elegant cars. Owners of rare vintage automobiles are invited to contend. Entrants are rated for authenticity, function, history, style and quality of restoration by a team of judges that include specialists for each car type. Judges make awards in many categories and for best of show.
The competition began in France in the 17th century as a parade of horse drawn carriages in the parks of Paris during summer weekends and holidays. Over time, carriages became horseless and the gatherings became a competition among automobile owners to be judged on appearance. In the United States, the Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance is one of the earliest Concours d’Elegance events and one of the most prestigious worldwide.
What should I wear to the Atlanta Concours d’Elegance?
